Arabic is liturgical language of Islam and 1.7 billion of it followers. Spoken by 422 million people in Arabic literature is the writing, both prose and poetry, produced by writers in the Arabic language. The Arabic word used for literature is ‘’Arabic’’ which is derived from a meaning of etiquette, and which implies politeness, culture and enrichment. Arabic literature emerged in the 5th century with only fragments of the written language appearing before then. During the middle Ages, literary Arabic was a major vehicle of culture in Europe, especially in science, mathematics and philosophy. As a result, many European languages borrowed may words from it e.g. Greek, Spanish and portages. The Quran, widely regarded by people as the finest piece of literature in the Arabic language, would have the greatest lasting effects on Arabic culture and its literature. Arabic literature flourished during the ISLAMIC GOLDEN AGE but has remained vibrant to the present day, with poets and prose- writers across the globe achieving increasing success. Prophet Muhammad (SAWW) said; “Adore Arabic for three reasons; I am Arab, the Quran is in Arabic and the language of the people of Jannah is Arabic”. Department of Arabic was established in Govt. Postgraduate College for Women, Kutchery Road, Multan, in 1948 since then. It has been giving the least results of other renowned institutions of the province.
This program’s vision crystallizes on raising student’s adequacy in the Arabic language, the language of religion and Arabism, and seeks meeting the local community’s needs and to provide it with the competencies. The program goes along with the vision of modern education, which is based on integrated education and extracurricular activates, and it reaches out to the other departments to improve student’s efficiency in other areas. Being the language of Quran, Hadith and other Shariah courses, Arabic language has an extraordinary status among the other languages in Muslim societies. A comprehensive syllabus will be introduced to enable the students that they can understand Quran directly and to have expression power through speaking. We offer Arabic courses in two disciplines, i.e., Quranic Arabic and Spoken Arabic to feel easy during Haj and Umrah visits. Arabic courses have also been included in different BS program. The Middle East is the biggest market for jobs. Our students will be comfortable if they will be well conversant in Arabic and they will be preferred in the job.
